Initially named as “Sri Lanka Consolidators Association” the association has been in existence since 1995 as an informal/unincorporated body. The initial brain waves behind the association were APL Logistics country manager Mr.Anil Panagoda (who was the un-contested chairman of the Association from 1995-2001.) along with Kalum Amarasinghe of Maersk Logistics and Robbie Wijemanna of Buyer's Consolidation.
In 2001 Mr. Panagoda decided to step down from the association due to increased career responsibilities paving the way for Mr. Andre Fernando the founder and then Managing Director of Expeditors Lanka Private Limited, to be appointed as the chairman of the association. Under his leadership SLCA was incorporated as a proper legal entity and renamed as “Sri Lanka Logistics Providers Association” on the 6 th of May 2002 under the Companies Act No. 17 of 1982.
